1597 - constructed a military compass.
1609 - Built a "telescope" (although he was not the first to do so.)
1610 - supported heliocentrism (Sun-centered universe) and free scientific inquiry
1632 ( The Inquisition ) - Galileo was forced to recant his ideas and the Catholic Church placed him under house arrest for the rest of his life.
